Monthly Dose of Zeplin - {June}

{31 Months}
Zeplin had his 2.5year checkup on the 19th and this kid has grown like crazy!! I accidentally threw away the papers they gave us but I believe he was in the 48% for heigh and weight so he's about average. He's a little stockier than he is tall but he will hit a growth spurt soon enough.

  • Zeplin has a great memory and we've really been working with him to improve this great little talent he has. The last few months we've been working on him knowing his full name, his age, where we live, what his parent's names are and even stuff as simple as knowing what cars his uncles/grandparents/and parents drive - including what color they are.
  • Zeplin has started being a little more brave - okay, a lot more brave - when it comes to handling Quincy. He picks her up and carts her around the house. He even gives her kisses.... yuck. The reason we find him brave when it comes to handling her is because she's a brat and will bite/scratch when she wants to be left alone.

  • Also on my son's “Love List” includes ROBOTS!! We introduced the movie, The Iron Giant, to Zeplin a few months ago but it wasn't until last week when we bought it and watched it again that he fell in love with it. It's the only movie, besides Cars, that he begs to watch. He will talk to us during the movie about the emotions of the robot. lol        At night, he will run outside with us, yelling, “Let's Hunt Robots!” “Mommy, Where the Robots?!” He has a fake phone and fake gun to assist him in this hunt.  He even has a toy robot that Kaycee gave him for his 2nd birthday (which I might add he was terrified of for months!) ... anyways, now he sleeps with it. It's all too much to handle!

  • Zeplin's sleeping habits have changed yet again. . . only this time, he will wake up in the  middle of the night, come downstairs, open our bedroom door and come in. Usually he walks up to his daddy's side of the bed and will tap him on the head until Matt pulls him into bed with us. Zeplin is usually really quiet, and will whisper when talking to us. Earlier in the month, he woke up in the middle of the night screaming so Matt when up to comfort him.... he left Zeplin with the excuse that he needed to go potty and came back to bed. Zeplin came downstairs an hour later and said, “Daddy, where you go?”

  • Also included in his sleeping habits - he's trained us to put him to bed. Zeplin will play all night long if we don't lay down with him. Once we lay down with him, he will fall asleep in less than 3 minutes. The flip side of this is we will usually fall asleep with him only to wake up a few hours later and scurry down to our own beds.
Unless he falls asleep in the car.... then we are safe ... lol.

  • Matt has Zeplin trained to fixing things. He's the cutest little mechanic you've ever seen. He loves to work on the boat with his daddy. You should see his excitement when he knows that we are going to the uncles to work.

 His papa Davenport gave him a small tool box to put all his own tools in and Zeplin was super happy about this. My favorite part of this “fixing” phase is when he decides he has to fix his bike. He will climb off, then turn to me and say, “Mommy, Be Right Back. Bike is broken. I fix it!” He scurries into the garage, grabbing as many tools as possible and proceeds to fix his bike.
He wanted to lay down and watch the planes fly overhead.

  •  Z's hair is getting really long but I don't have the heart to cut it again. It's also starting to get dark. I still have a feeling it's going to go dark like his daddies!

  • He's also got a new interest in eyes and eye color. He will walk up to some of the kids in day care and say, “You have _____ eyes.” The first time he did it to me, I was holding him and talking to a friend and he grabbed my face, pointed his finger to my eyes and said, “Mommy. You have green eyes! Zeplin have blue eyes!” It's a daily occurrence that he likes to tell us about his blue eyes. I was taking pictures of our cabinets when they were finished and hollered at me to come take a picture of his blue eyes. They are pretty mesmerizing.
  • Although I'm still apprehensive of my son playing on the playground equipment alone, he is beyond brave. He's hilarious! He has even started saying, “Mommy, watch me. I can do it!” I love it so much!

  • Z shares a love of ice cream with his daddy. Ice cream isn't my treat of choice but when your son says, “Mommy. I want Icsh Cream Cone please.” It's hard to resist his cute face or his singing shenanigans in the backseat while we wait!

  • Zeplin likes trying to dress himself. He's not very good and will 98% of the time put both legs into one underwear hole or into one pant leg. It's adorable. He knows he's funny when he does this and will try to jump around, subsequently falling on his face.

Zeplin is such a good boy. Sometimes Matt and I forget how wonderful our son is and can be a little hard on him. Every night we go to bed and talk about what we love about our little guy and how we can be better parents to him. He deserves the best parents we can be and we are so thankful for this beautiful soul that occupies our hearts!
