A couple packages arrived at my house this week --- one of them I wasn't expecting.
When the first one came, before opening the box, I text Matt so he could tell me if he was anticipating something, but instead, he told me to just open it.
And inside was a new pair of shoes.... for me!!
Matt wanted them to be a Valentine's gift but my feet had been hurting so badly after kickboxing that he decided I needed cross training shoes instead of my running shoes.
I love them! I've only had a chance to wear them twice for kickboxing but so far they're exactly what I needed. They are lightweight, which is great for getting my kicks higher and completing a burnout.
I'm making sure to only wear them in a gym or in the studio because I want them to last for as long as possible!

The other package came Wednesday and contained some neon pink Zensah compression sleeves for my calfs.
I suffer from severe shin splints and have for years. The past couple summers I couldn't even run from base to base without feeling like my shins are going to snap in half. Now with kickboxing, it's not any better.
The first day I wore them at kickboxing, they didn't help. My shins still hurt so bad. I came home that night and iced my aching bones. I used Deep Blue and LemonGrass oil to help the pain go away. It worked but only long enough for me to sleep. The pain returned the next morning.
The crappy thing about my shin splints is they aren't painful just during exercise - it's all day long.
I try to just muscle through the pain with high hopes they will improve.
I might have to try the KT tape if these sleeves don't start helping.

It wouldn't be fair for me to not share this new found secret for losing an inch or two this week.
My cousin shared with me this new DoTerra Slim and Sassy body wrap using oils, coconut oil and plastic wrap. I've rolled my eyes numerous time to idea of wrapping myself in plastic like a character on Dexter. But when I looked at the list of oils, I realized I had all of them anyways so why not give it a try.
I made the mixture and applied it to my tummy then stretched the wrap around my torso. I kept it there for a few hours. The peppermint really kept my skin feeling tingly and cool. I loved it! (If you don't have all the oils, I suggest using Slim & Sassy, Peppermint and Lavender.)
I didn't notice a difference until the next day. My tummy was visibly smaller and after I measured, it confirmed that I lost an inch around.
I walked into Kickboxing and one of the instructors came up to me and said, “I don't want to get slapped for asking this but how much weight have you lost?” (My trainer is a guy) I was so happy someone noticed that I shared, “16 pounds...”
He high faved me and said, “Ya girl - you totally look like you're shrinking!”
(Enter imaginary fist pump!!)
On the topic of working out, my mom is lending me her upright spinning bike until the weather warms up.
I can't explain to you the excitement I feel when I hop on a bike and I can't wait to get my legs/hips conditioned for biking this summer. Matt and I are contemplating saving a little money and purchasing some inexpensive road bikes. Since we live in the back country of Boise, it's easier for us to take the side streets to the desert roads (where no one is at) than drive to the foothills to use our mountain bikes (where everyone is at. lol). It's just wishing thinking for now but I'd love to look into it.
We put the bike upstairs in the theatre room so when Matt is working and watching Dexter, I can spin. I've used it every single day this week and can already tell a difference in my hip function.
Biking is also about the only thing I can do that doesn't agitate my shins. (only my butt!!! Owee!)

My heart leaps with excitement when my little son is helpful around the house. He's getting to an age where he loves to be included. I try to invite him to help with all the household chores, some of the cooking and most of the cleaning.
Zeplin hates the vacuum but thinks the broom and swiffer mop is the coolest thing ever. I'm trying to coddle this love of cleaning now before he decides he hate cleaning one day.
As of recently, Zeplin's current chore list includes cleaning his bedroom every night before bed, putting dirty clothes in the laundry basket and helping transfer his laundry from the washer to the dryer and the dryer to his laundry basket.
Zj also has to clean up his toys every night in every room of the house. He's getting better about keeping his toys in his room because he doesn't like carting them upstairs if he brings them down.
He also has to give us his dirty dishes after dinner or put all his dirty dishes on the counter if we're busy.
He's already really good about throwing his garbage away... and throwing our garbage away. lol.
Matt hopes that Zeplin gets his habits vs. mine. Although I keep the house clean, it's always a little cluttered. Whereas, Matt is very orderly - every thing has it's rightful place. ..... I actually hope Zj grows up to be more organized too... I'm going to need all the help I can get in my old age so when I misplace my mind, my husband and son can help me find it. lol.

I cut my sons hair - All by myself!!! Eeek!
(Don't mind my creepy off camera, just woke up, haven't even brushed my teeth look in the corner....)
Matt was so against Zeplin having his hair cut last weekend but I just couldn't go another day with his scraggly and whispie hairs.
I gave him a bath Thursday morning and as I was rubbing lotion on his body afterwards, (without telling Matt), I pulled out the scissors and went for it.
I didn't cut off a lot - Maybe just a half inch all around. It's still long but the top looks so much fuller instead of like an old man with a comb over. The back is so beautiful with it's blonde curls.
His hair is starting to darken a lot. Matt was a blonde baby until he was about 4 and it turned black. I would love it if Zeplin's hair turned black and with his ice blue eyes. ... The contrast would be so stunning.
I sure love my little blonde hair, blue eyed little monster though! (Never in a million years would I have thought I would have a child with blonde hair and blue eyes..... (:SMILES:)
{FIVE:}
Matt and I share a love of scaring each other. It's kind of demented but it always makes us laugh (or makes me cry depending on how scared I am.)
We decided awhile ago that Zeplin is old enough to join in on our little fun. We include him in scaring each other and he's learned to be really quiet and hid behind doors, then jump out to scare us.
But I took it a step further recently..... It's his turn to start getting a little scared!
He will look at me afterwards and yell, “Stop It Momma!” then run away laughing. I'm trying to record each time I'm scaring him because he likes to laugh at it with us then say, “Oh Momma scare you.” (He says ‘you’ when he really means scare ‘ME’)
