Parenting Goals

I read the most beautiful quote the other day and when I searched for the author, LR Knost, a slew of quotes & books written by her popped up.
I connected most with this quote, “It's not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It's our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.”
It reminded me of something Matt shared with me after he'd had a conversation with my dad after we had Zeplin. They were talking about us having more children when Matt said he didn't want to have a large family because this world is so messed up... “Why bring a lot of children into this crazy world?”... and my dad said, “It's parents like you and my daughter that need to have more children so to bring some light into this crazy, messed up world.”
It really left an impression on Matt. He brings it up often. (And probably another reason why Matt told me he didn't feel ready for us to be done having children after this one.)
But how true is what my father said?? Not necessarily about Matt and I but that we need more parents who lead their families with love, understanding, respect and just being good examples of character.
I can genuinely say that becoming a mother has changed my life. I want to be the best I can be for my son so that he can continue the pattern for when he has children.
I am thankful for my husband to be my partner in this journey. He is so gracious, kind, patient and loving so I know when I fail, (which I do daily), Matt will always be there to bring me back to my goals. And visa versa.
If this world is going to be come a little less crazy & messed up, it's going to start with us, as parents.
Honestly, I want to be just like my mom. She's what this world needs more of. Patient, Kind, Empathetic, and loving.
