Chosen for Christ by Heather Holleman just fell on my lap as a book that Amazon thought might interest me. Since Amazon knows me so well, I decided to give it a try.
Oh how I enjoyed this book. I'm not really into self-help style books but this one incorporated so many scriptures and self reflection questions that it felt more like a Bible Study.
As I read this book, I looked back at my life and the past 2 years, with all the hardships and fist pumping accomplishments, I still found the same prayer flowing out of me.
"Why Me? God, why did you choose me to completely jump ship in my old life for this new life? Did you know this was going to be hard? To abandon all previous beliefs and ideas and feelings? Did you know that I was going to struggle? Did you know that I would wrestle with what I WANT to believe but what I knew YOU CALLED me to believe?"
And of course He did.
He planned my whole life out for me. Down to the very details of where I live, who I live with, when I live and what fruits will come out of my life and future. I still laugh when I think about living in this house. Because if you remember, I did not want this house, but God knew better. He knew I would find the church that we now attend. He knew I would meet some wonderful people who love Him. He knew that Matt would be involved and important in our walk with Jesus. He just knew......
God chose me:
-To worship Him (1Peter 2:9)
-Live as His treasured possession (Deuteronomy 14:2)
-Belong to a New Family (Ephesians 2:19)
-Display God's Power (Psalm 65:5)
-Complete Good Works (John 15:16)
-Become Like Jesus (Romans 8:29)
-Live Different from the world (Romans 12:2)
-My days are spend worshipping Him in song & prayer because He is worthy of all worship.
-I will live a life that reflects His grace in my life as I have been forgiven and justified.
-I have been adopted into His family and a church body of believers.
-I wasn't meant to live in fear of rejection, or constant strivings to go & do. He has provided me with all the means to produce fruit & good works that only bring glory to Him, not to me.
-Just by living I am displaying God's Power. He saved my life and brought me into a relationship with Him.
-To live like Him, I must know Him.
-The Holy Spirit is sanctifying me in ways that I could not do for myself.
As I read these things, I understand more about God's faithfulness. He promised these things to me, not because I deserve it but because HE is in control. He knows better to the ways of my life than I do and I trust Him, because I know I am chosen by Him.
