Visiting Family in Rexburg

Early last week we made a last minute decision to go to Eastern Idaho with Matt's two older brothers and Adam's new fiancĂ©', Ariel. Matt had to work Friday morning but as soon as he got home, we hit the road.

The drive was actually really enjoyable. We made a stop at Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls and it was 100% worth it. The flows are so high right now that it made the falls look majestic and magical.

Both of the kids loved the mini hike and watching the water fall. Zeplin thought it was "beautiful." We couldn't have agreed more!

We finally made it to Nichole's house in Idaho Falls shortly before 6pm and visited with family over dinner and a fun birthday party for miss Brooklyn, who just turned 9. It was great to see family again and we looked forward to the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday, after breakfast, we made our way to Rexburg to visit Grandma Darline at the rehab nursing home she's living in.
She was using the restroom with some nurses so we snuck Arrowlyn in the room so when she came out, Arrowlyn was who she saw. It was adorable. Fortunately Matt got it all on video.

Zeplin was feeling a little unsure of visiting grandma. Matt had to take him for a little walk when Zeplin confessed to feeling scared seeing her in her wheelchair because "she was sick." Matt explained that she wasn't sick but she was old and sometimes our bodies need help doing things like walking. Eventually he was a little more understanding of the situation. It was endearing to hear his confusion but work through his apprehension.

Arrowlyn was also a little apprehensive but once she became center of attention, she quickly showed off her adorableness.

Grandma started to get tired. We left so she could nap and went to lunch.  Afterwards, we headed to the Egin Sand Dunes in St. Anthony.
It was freezing cold!! The sand felt like snow and the wind made it even more miserable but the greatest part of it all was seeing our kids enjoy themselves! Dexter had the most fun of us all. He ran and jumped and dug himself into the sand. Even though we were little miserable, we couldn't stop smiling.

After the sand dunes, we headed to Grandma Joan's house. We visited for awhile while Adam showed his fiance' the property. Grandma Joan fell in love with Dexter and snuggled him tenderly. She has such a wonderful love for animals.
We didn't stay super long but really enjoyed looking at old pictures of Melanie side of the family and I loved looking at pictures of my handsome husband as a baby! So cute!

The kids and I took off to Walmart to get grandma some flowers and headed back to the nursing home, meeting the rest of the family there.

We even brought Dexter in. Grandma was so in love with him and made the comment that it's no wonder why they use dogs for therapy because she felt 100x better just snuggling with Dex.

Arrowlyn was sweet enough to snuggle with Grandma which made Grandma cry. She was so happy to introduce Arrowlyn to everyone as her name sake. And I really think it meant a a lot to her to just hold Arrowlyn.

It was a quick visit that ended in tears from Grandma who just wished that Junior could be here to see his beautiful family. Thankfully I wasn't in the room when she said that because I would have lost it. This was the first time I've left Grandma without crying. I just know how much she and Junior meant to Matt and his brothers - that I feel so much gratitude to them.

That night we had a yummy spaghetti dinner, played Mexican train and went to bed late.

It was bitter sweet going home the next day. Now that Nichole has a new house, we plan on going over more often to visit and hope next time we can spend another day. The weekend just went by too fast.
