Compassion International

We have been so blessed by this awesome journey of sponsoring a child through

Compassion International.

I first learned of Compassion International, when Zeplin was a baby, from my friend Joyce, who has been sponsoring a young lady in Uganda for over a decade. I heard about it again when I attended the For King and Country concert in 2019. The band dedicates a chunk of time during their concert to encourage the attendees to sponsor a child through Compassion International. But during the 2023 For King and Country concert with my husband and children, Matt felt encouraged to look into the sponsorship more. We prayed over it for a week before deciding to move forward with the commitment. Then we took another week to pray over which child to sponsor. We were with paired a boy in Ghana, two years older than Zeplin but shared the same birth day with him. His name is Kwame. We all got to write him a letter and send him some pictures before receiving our first letter from him. It made us so happy to hear from him and discuss, as a family, the life he lives in his little village through his letter.  His letter asked us to pray that "he can live long" and wants to "become a teacher so he can impart knowledge to others." We hang his picture and letter on our fridge to remind us to think of him and pray for him.

My children will be first to tell you that they battle selfishness and 'spoiled brat' syndrome. We've tried to cut back on our spending as a family and while we don't ever want our children to go without, we went the extreme and gave them just about anything they wanted when they were little. It's a bit embarrassing for me as a mom. But since having the opportunity to sponsor Kwame, both kids will occasionally question what he would be doing at that moment.
