HOOKED

Matt has been trying to get me to go fly fishing for years.

I grew up fishing.

Matt and I spent the bulk of our 1st year of marriage on a fishing dock, on a lake or on a river bank with a fishing pole in hand and smile on our faces. We bonded over fishing and have raised our children to enjoy fishing too.

For my 38th birthday in May, Matt gifted me a fly fishing rod with the motivation to convince me to start fly fishing. I gave it a try and I was frustrated at first. Then something clicked and I finally figured out how to cast correctly.

And now I'm hooked!!

When it started to get cold, Matt got me all geared up with waders, a net, and boots. We've been going out at least 2x a week.

I've caught a trout or two and a few brown trouts. They're my favorite. They are so beautiful.

The other day, we were at Eagle Island when I caught a beautiful brown trout. Matt went up the river to try a different place when my line was tugged again. This next fish was a fighter. I've never felt such power from a fish on a fly rod. It got about 2-3 feet from me when I pulled my net out to see that it was at least a foot long!!  The fish tugged one last time before, I assume, diving deep down and then my line snapped!!! I started sobbing. It was borderline ridiculous, but it was such an adrenaline rush. I was crying and shaking as I hurriedly tied a new fly to my line. I stayed out there for another hour before Matt finally told me that he was cold and it was time for dinner. I had barely noticed that my own toes were freezing and it was getting dark outside.

We've gone fishing a few more times since then and I haven't caught anything more, but I'm really itching for more time fishing with my hubby! Thanks babe!
