A Great Big Loss Funeral

 Our Father, God in Heaven,

It’s with broken hearts that we come before You today. To give praise and glory to YOUR name while remembering our brother & son, our father and our friend, Robert Davenport.

LORD, YOU are our Omniscient God from the beginning of time. (John 1:1)

YOU know every hair on our head. YOU know when we will take our last breath on this earth.

Our hope is not in temporal things, including our bodies,.. for we know we will all fade away one day. YOU teach us that “From the dust YOU created us and to the dust we will go.”

YOU created us and prepared us in advance for YOUR glory, not ours. We confess that our affections are often misplaced with the things of the world or our own fleshly desires. But Great is YOUR faithfulness to us that while we are sinners, Christ laid down his life in place for us.

Our hope is found only in YOU, LORD. Our hope is through YOUR finished work on the cross. The earth shook, the veil was torn in two and YOUR last utterance at your last breath was “It is FINISHED.” And God, I believe your words. IT IS FINISHED - death has been conquered and the grave no longer has claim over those who believe.

YOUR grace is sufficient and offered to us through the shedding of your blood. Thank you Jesus.

YOU are sovereign over our days. In your word, YOU remind us there is a time to be born and a time to die. A time to weep and a time to laugh. A time to mourn and a time to dance.

In supplication, Father, please bless this time we share together as we mourn and miss Robert.

Draw us into YOU as YOUR word provides a balm to our brokenness.

Lord, tether our hearts to YOURS and At YOUR will and appointed time, lift us out of this valley of sadness and let us praise to YOU on the peaks.

God, YOUR steadfast love never ceases. YOUR mercies never come to an end. Though we grieve today, Lord, YOU offer us compassion and peace when we call upon YOUR name. YOU promise to save those crushed in spirit. (2 Corinthians 1:4)

You are a good, good God. You know our hearts. You knew Robert’s heart. You love him as You love all your creations. All Glory, and Honor and Praise - in your blessed name.

Amen.
